Story Time
When I was a kid, my mum would spend hours chasing me around the house trying to get me to eat even the smallest bit of rice and dhal. I don't remember when and how it all changed but I'm so glad that it did! Over the years my relationship with food has evolved a lot. I grew up eating chicken burgers, crab curry, mutton sausages, meatball curry, sunny-side-up eggs on toast, and a whole lot of other meat dishes alongside the usual vegetarian dishes.
Roughly 10 years ago I decided to go fully vegetarian and this too was a process from lacto-ovo-vegetarian to lacto-vegetarian and now somewhere in between lacto-vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free! Haha... What a journey! All of these choices were always made based on how each of these dietary preferences made me feel. These days gluten and dairy do not make me feel great at all, so I try my best to stay away from these products. However, on the plus side, it's allowed me to experiment with a whole range of alternatives that I didn't know was possible! The other day, my cousin asked me what I got in return from taking pictures and sharing recipes. I answered that I just wanted to make it easier for people to make vegetarian food. That was my intention from the day I took my first "food picture".
My granny was vegetarian but still cooked the best chicken curry, fried fish, fish bhajias, roast chicken... the list goes on! I mention her in a lot of my stories because I spent a lot of time helping and watching her. As a teen, I spent hours watching my aunt plate up food in such a beautiful manner and had the opportunity to waitress and set up the food tables at many events she catered at. I have one aunt who always knows how to turn normally unhealthy food into a super healthy meal, one who makes dishes from all parts of the world, and others who always make sure there's homemade food on the table, even with minimal ingredients. There's also my Mum, who is always committed to trying new things and being really fast at making a variety of different food items. Neighbours, cousins, friends, teachers, the-aunty-down-the-road... all of their love for creating and sharing has always inspired me and will remain so through the rest of my journey. Also, my partner-in-crime, my dear husband, my biggest critic - he makes me want to be better every day, with every meal!
To all my followers, I see you and I thank you for being here, for sharing this journey with me. Through The Prana Plate, I hope that you will always be inspired to put on your plate that which raises your prana.
